The Perfect Look: How To Apply Makeup Step By Step For Beginners

We realized that getting the perfect look does not have to be a challenge the way most people think. Applying makeup is very easy, especially with the right steps we discovered. We all agree that the power of makeup is undeniable, especially when following the best makeup routine. We feel confident when we have the best makeup on and have achieved the perfect look. Applying the perfect makeup does not require a lot of skills or complicated tools to use. Blending with fingers is much easier because, at times, we cannot afford to get all the makeup brushed that we need. We use the steps below to get the perfect look with makeup on.

Start With Clean Skin

We wash our faces before applying any makeup. This helps in removing all the impurities on the face, leaving clear skin. For beginners, cleaning your skin before applying any makeup is the first step to doing facial makeup. We recommend using a facial cleanser that is not harsh on the skin. This will help in exfoliating the skin, leaving a brighter and smoother skin.

  • Moisturize The Face

This is the second step in the order of makeup. We recommend moisturizing the face before applying any makeup on as this helps in hydrating the skin, hence the makeup will be absorbed well on the skin. Also, this helps in keeping our skin from getting too oily during the day when we have makeup on. Moisturizer works perfectly whether you have oily, dry, or normal skin. We recommend seeking professional help to know the kind of primer that works well for a specific skin type, ranging from the lightest to the heaviest. However, we recommend a gel-based formula for people with oily skin. Waiting five minutes before applying foundation to the face helps the moisturizer to get deep into the skin. There are different moisturizers that we can use such as face mists, lotions, serums, creams, and specific oils.

  • Prime The Face

Primers are the best when we are looking to achieve an even base for makeup. Primer makes the makeup stick well on the face without looking “cakey” and lasts longer. Using a small amount of primer goes a long way. We recommend using fingertips when applying the primers so that it gets evenly distributed on the face. Also, a suitable makeup brush can be used when applying the primer to the face. When learning how to do makeup, we advise that the primer stage should never be missed. Start with the center of the face, and work your way slowly towards the cheeks, forehead, and chin.

  • Apply Foundation

At this point, the face is now cleansed, moisturized, and prepped to take in other facial makeup products that are suitable for a given complexion. The next makeup order is to apply a foundation matching the skin’s complexion. We recommend a matte foundation for people with oily skin so that the foundation can stay longer on the skin. In addition to that, we also recommend liquid foundation for those with dry to normal skin. The matte foundation is light on the face and gives one an even skin tone. Moreover, it also stays on the skin for up to 24 hours. Furthermore, the matte foundation works best even when sweating and when it’s raining because it is waterproof. We never have to worry about frequent touch-ups throughout the day.

We know that getting the right foundation might be a challenge, especially for a beginner. We have a trick to help in testing whether the selected foundation suits a specific skin type. Test the foundation colors against the jawline. If it disappears without blending it in any way, then that is the right foundation to go with. Also, select the brushes or tools that will be used in applying the foundation, but fingertips work well too.

  • Concealer

Concealer should be applied only where it is needed. When looking for steps on how to do makeup, we recommend that we conceal under the eyes and over any blemishes on the face. Also, it can be used in areas where you want to brighten. Concealer mainly works by making any imperfect area on the face look perfect. Concealers also vary in their levels of coverage just like foundations, and that is why we recommend getting products from professional stores for any first-timer.

  • Highlighter And Contour

Ever wondered why celebrities and influencers usually have chiseled faces? The secret is in the choice of highlighter and contour used. Contours are known to add depth, whereas highlighters bring the light forward. This means that using both highlighter and contour adds to the overall dimension of the face.

Highlighter works in any spot on the face that naturally picks up light. The parts of the face that should be highlighted include the bridge of the nose, below the eyebrows, collarbone, lower chin, apples of the cheeks, inner corners of the eyes, forehead, and cupid’s bow. All the places that have been highlighted illuminate and give a perfect glow and enhance bone structure as well.

We recommend a highlighter that works perfectly with your skin tone, and getting professionally tested for the best highlighter can be an added advantage. This is because the right shade of highlighter creates an even sheen, making the skin look natural, and not covered in glitters.

On the other hand, contouring is the complete opposite of highlighting. While highlighting “highlights” the facial features, contouring darkens the areas you want to define. One of the most common places to contour is the hollows of the cheeks. Add a darker color of contour to this area because it sculpts your cheekbones and makes them appear higher, sharper, and more defined. The other places that can be contoured when doing facial makeup also include brow bones, nose, eyes, and jawline.

  • Bronzer And Blush

Using a bronzer and blush is also important when doing facial makeup. Bronzer gives the skin a glow that one is aiming for, and creates a natural look. Also, bronzers lift the cheekbones and other features of the face. Bronzers come in creams, liquids, and even powder form. On the other hand, blush adds a hint of color to the cheeks. The color of the blush chosen will determine where it is used. There are pink, peach, and plum blushes.

Eye And Lip Makeup For Beginners

After this step, we recommend applying eye makeup. Start by defining your eyebrows, applying an eye shadow, applying eyeliner, and finishing up with mascara. Then, show some love to your lips by lining the lips with a lip liner and applying either lipstick or lip gloss, depending on taste and preference.

  • Eyeshadow Primer

This is the first makeup product that we recommend when doing eye makeup. Most normal primers contain silicon or water, making an eyeshadow primer the best option because it offers more grip, and allows eye makeup to stay in place for longer. This means that once you put your eyeshadow, it will last longer because the eyeshadow primer guarantees the longevity of the product.

  • Eyeshadow

This eye makeup product is used to emphasize the eyes. This makeup comes in different shades and has different levels of pigmentation, making it easier for an individual to select one. The final look to be achieved should be put into consideration when selecting an eyeshadow.

  • Eyeliner

This makeup tool is used to define and enhance the shape of the eye. As a result, one can create a different look with this makeup tool. The three types of eyeliners that are available are liquid, gel, or pencil eyeliners. We recommend you try any of the three options and settle for the one that works perfectly for you.

  • Mascara

Applying mascara to the eyelashes enhances the eyelashes and makes them look thicker, longer, darker, and fuller. Therefore, we recommend using mascara to achieve this perfect look on your eyelashes.

Eyebrows  For Beginners

For the eyebrows, there are three products that can be used to give a more defined eyebrow, whether you have thick eyebrows or not.

  • Eyebrow Gel

This gel is used mainly to keep the eyebrow hair in place. The eyebrow gel comes either clear or tinted, extra-hold, or natural.

  • Eyebrow Pencil

The eyebrow pencil is used in facial makeup to draw in eyebrow hairs. This allows us to achieve the most natural-looking eyebrows. This pencil is also used in creating strokes that resemble real eyebrow hair.

  • Eyebrow Powder

When selecting an eyebrow powder, we recommend selecting one that matches your eyebrow color. The powder is a perfect makeup tool for filling in sparse spots.

Lip Makeup For Beginners

There are so many lip products that can be used on the lips. However, as a beginner, we recommend the following essential products.

  • Lip Primer

The lip primer is mainly used to keep all the other lip products in place. In addition, the primer also creates a smooth canvas for the other lip products that will be used. We recommend not missing a lip primer in your makeup kit.

  • Lip Pencil

This pencil is used to enhance the lips’ shape and outline the lips before applying lipstick. Moreover, for those looking forward to creating a fuller pout, we recommend using your lip liner to contour your mouth and slightly over-line.

  • Lipstick Or Lip Gloss

Here, you can go with any option that you desire. Lipstick adds color to the lips and enhances the fullness of the mouth. It comes in different forms such as liquid lipstick to matte lipstick. On the other hand, a lip gloss gives a “glossy” finish to the lips. There is translucent and highly pigmented lip gloss. Use the applicator the gloss comes with when applying it on your lips and spread with your finger.

Setting The Makeup For Beginners

Everything is now done, and it is time to make everything stay in place. A setting spray or a setting powder can be used to make a final touch-up to the makeup. We recommend investing in a quality setting solution that will make your makeup stay intact all day without creasing or shining. Using setting sprays is an advantage since they work for all skin types, and help reduce reapplication.

In summary, for any beginner starting her makeup journey, we recommend you follow the steps above to get the perfect look that you are looking for. Do not forget to seal everything with a setting spray or a setting powder to rock the perfect look for the whole day.
